Project: Food Budget Week 2

Posted on by on January 12th, 2012 | 5 Comments »

You are in for a treat this week 2 of Project:Food Budget! I have included a meal plan plus a grocery list!

After last weeks overspending I am happy to report that we did not take any extra trips to the store. That grocery shop lasted all week: 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 dinners, and 14 snacks! (Pat on back.)

Tip of the Week: For quick meal planning use online tools and Apps.

Do you use online meal planners? I like to experiment with different online meal planners. Who doesn’t want to simplify meal planning?

This week I stumbled across ZipList. I was searching for recipe widgets for this site. I updated a recipe using the ZipList Widget. Now you can add this recipe directly to your ZipList! Is that a valuable tool? Would you use it? Let me know what you think.

Wait! There is more. ZipList also has an App. You can meal plan and make a grocery list right in the palm of your hand. The week 2 menu AND grocery list is brought to you by ZipList. Oh, did I mention it is FREE? I wanted to plan a full week of meals using this new tool, so this week is a little heavier in dairy than we typically eat. I will likely substitute with Daiya cheese. Let’s see if this tool kept me on budget…

Week 2 Spending

Woohoo! I did much better this week. This shop even includes toilet paper, rice and beans in bulk.

Menu Plan Week 2

Glazed Sesame Salmon And Wasabi Mashed Potatoes

Linguine With Almond Pesto And Beans

Pumpkin Black Bean Soup

Slow Cooker Black Bean Enchilladas

Asparagus, Zucchini And Chickpea Green Curry

White Lasagna Recipe

Homemade Pizza

*I decided after I made the menu to exclude the lasagna. Too much dairy for us and dairy is expensive! I will replace it with a leftover night.

I’ll have to check out that app. Sounds like a good one.

And I sincerely believe that Costco is a total money sucker. We can never leave places like that without spending over $100+ on things we probably never needed.

Way to go on week 2!!

I find that Costco’s prices aren’t always better. You have to be very careful. I have found that frozen berries and almond milk are worth buying there. I am going to limit myself to going 1-2 times per month for those two things.

Wow thanks for the idea! I’ll check on this app! I love trying those too!

I still haven’t got the hang of meal planning and I think I may never. I can only plan 2-3 days ahead at the most. I guess it’s working for me so I can’t complain too much.

I heard of ziplist a couple of weeks ago and I briefly necked it out. I’ll have to reallylook into it again. I use grocery iq app and that’s been really helpful.

    Good luck with next week!
